The blue Birkenhead bus has a 1967 registration. Did they make 1930s looking buses in 1967?

I always loved the busses the Leyland was in many ways as good as the Route master. The 73 remained a back loader after most of the fleet had become Atlantean. The Atlantean became the one man bus but originally it had conductors. Every now and then Leyland sent the Corpy new or experimental busses that?s why you see oddities around. The standard Atlantean became the norm for the corporation. Middle doors being the main change.
But the Routemaster looked far better - it was commissioned to "look good". Designed by Douglas Scott, a designer not an engineer. He designed toasters, and even the Rayburn stove. It shows too. He was not happy with the final design wanting the bonnet to be more curved.Quote:

BTW, the Austin A35 car was "engineered" by aircraft engineers - a full monocoque construction without a chassis - the first car in the world as so. The aircraft engineers thought the car looked hideous, as Austin had the decision on the shape.
