I've been told the St Hilda in Walton Rd is going to close in May & be demolished shortly after

Great pics all.. Why are they demolishing all these lovely premises?

I don't know why so many pubs are closing down. Everywhere you go there are pubs boarded up.

Is The Holt in Kensington going to be pulled down?? I see that the adjoining row is set to be cleared but the plans don't shed any light on the future of the pub!

The Wirral Globe had a story on this, the theory is that if a pub is able to remain competitive, they need to be more flexible than serve ale. Several pubs over this side have also closed with others feeling the strain.

Yes, I've just found out that it is to be flattened...

The Halton Castle is a nice pub. Small rooms, but there's about 5.
It's laid out is a different way than most pubs.
I've been told it has a nice beer garden as well, but I've never seen it or been in there, just see people on the benches at the side of the car park.

How long has it been called this? It used to be 'The Black Horse and Rainbow'- apparently after an ancient hostelry standing on the same site- and had its own brewery in the window. It was 'The Masonic' before that. Saw some great bands in there.

As The Masonic, I was in there fairly often when a mate ran it.
Never played pool in there as I knew what he got up to on the table when entertaining ladies - it was a lock-up with no accommodation upstairs.

Great pics GD. The Goat on Gt. Howard st just closed down last sunday, successive manageresses have struggled with that place since the industry in the area was taken away.

Deanos, I'm pretty sure used to be the N.U.R. club that closed down in the mid 80's.

And that photographer that went round the town with the trilby on was Tony Rome (yeah like that was his real name). I've got a few photos of me and my mates from around 1970 taken by Tony.

Sad indeed, with the demise of the Bull there's nothing left on that road now till Bootle. The Edinburgh on Prescot Road Fairfield has shut down recently as well. This pic was taken in March, wonder how many instances there are in the city suburbs now of two pubs next door to each other still open.

Talking of pubs, what's the story with the Bluehouse? Is it still closed and is it going to reopen again?
