On that list theirs a Grapes On Allerton Road In Woolton and A Grapes On Knight Street behind Rodney street too.
The 'other' Rising Sun, known locally as Mrs. Macks but now disused though somebody bought it and had scaffolding put up around it last year, apparently to live in.
The tenements are the top block of Portland Gardens. Interesting that the street sign here is Portland Street but is now Green street and has been rearranged. The Chemist is now a corner shop and the corner facing is the health centre.
Another street further along Vauxhall road was changed from Hopwood street to Gem street and then back to Hopwood street recently for some reason?
Sorry, forgot to say that it's a pic taken from Freddy O'Connors 'A pub on every corner Vol3'
Is Freddy still writing? I loved his "Tumbling Down " book! Some great pubs in there too like the Blue Ball Pub on Prescot Street which went along with most of the area when the Royal Liverpool was built.
One of them, Freddy or Frank is a presenter on Radio Merseyside.
I took a photo of St Polycarps on Friday

MarkA, this pub was one of my locals whenever I returned home. Some of my mates from Canny, as well as my Mum and Dad, moved out and upped sticks in Crocky and that was where we met up before moving on to the the back room at the Sandon before the match. Great pics. I still get my chips from the Britannia chippy just across the road from the (ex) pub whenever I'm in Crocky. You can get a bucketload of chips for £1.20 at current prices:unibrow:
Thanks.
Hi Ged
Portland Street was the next street to Burlington Street going towards Hornby
Street but between both streets on Vauxhall Road was a street called Green Street which went to Titchfield Street this is on a map from 1923 also Hopwood Street when it was changed to Gem Street mybe this was in memory of the
Gem picture house that was on Vescock Street which became Sillys Club .
