There was still the odd fleapit that didn't appear, so I suppose the others paid for their entries.
I don't get the Echo much these days, but on the odd occasions when I do I don't seem to see the Woolton advertising.

Took some searching but here it is.

Check the movie out that is on the Tunnel Rd. Picturedrome. Would get them locked up today.
That was an Agatha Christie book.
Even the book has been renamed "And Then There Were None."
This is an example of what you get when you Google it.
Even history has to be re-written to be PC, it seems. :eek:
Quote:
"Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, (originally called Ten Little Indians) is considered the world’s best selling whodunit mystery, having sold over 100 million copies since 1939."
Yes, they should have just left it as it was but prefixed the word Agatha with 'Honky' :)
Some more 1995 cinema pics;
The Commodore, Stanley Road, Kirkdale
Detail to above windows
Tunnel Road Picturedrome, Edge Hill
The Casino, Kensington/Prescot Road
And a repeat of the May 11 1955 cinema index, including that film at the Tunnel Road Picturedrome!!!!!!!
So, Philip, piracy is alive and in cyberspace!!!!!! I don't know how you can stop it except by watermarking?
Some unseen pics of typically run down New Brighton in 1987
Also two Mersey Ferries, agaist a typical river backdrop 1987
It did. See message 443 above which refers you to a link with the newspaper ad for it.
I know I'm still way off-topic, but quite rightly, we're not allowed to use the "N" word these days.
How does Jonathan Ross get away with saying "4 P**fs and a piano" every week?
To me that "P" word is just as offensive as the "N" word.
As it's SUMMER, some 1955 snaps of Southport;
Yet more 1995 cinema pics;
The Swan Picturedrome, Old Swan
The Palladium, Seaforth
Gaumont, Dingle
Gaumont, Anfield (Oakfield Road)
The Curzon, Prescot Road
Out of interest, does anyone know of any good pics of the old Pier Head Bus Station??? Most Ive seen only show the roof. I wouldn't mind knowing what the entrance from the dock road was like???????
Hunts Cross Station in April, 1989, before the "Waiting Room" pub (X3)
Queing for last show at the Forum, Lime Street, 29 January 1998
1959 advert from Irwins (taken over by Tesco)
Great pics once again Sirob. Queuing up at the pictures,now there's a pastime.
I remember it going round the block when Grease was on. Jeezus,and I was in that line.The shame:PDT_Xtremez_42:
Some 1995 pics of the Woolton Cinema;
Curtains opening
Projector beam
Projection Room
Changing a carbon arc rod
Most cinemas also had a slide projector, here is a typical slide from the Majestic
Great, Sirob.
Here's some taken at the closing in September 2006.
Luckily, it's reopened.

Good to hear, Philip, that one cinema rose from the dead! Lets have some more of the Woolton then, all1995;
Watering the hanging baskets
The entrance door-looking out!
Decorative plasterwork(X2)
And another Majestic slide. These ones you could scratch your own words on! Reproduced so that the grid is visible, this would not be on the screen.
This is the International Garden Festival site in 1983
Some shots of preparing for Rainhill 150 at Bold Colliery/Power Station.
This was a restricted area, so who you knew counted!
as I've been stuck in for various reasons - including a bad back which prevented me from going to the airport thing GRRR - I've been swearing at my scanner again.
pics are obviously rubbish, but it's the backgrounds that are the best bits. I nearly threw these away years ago as you can hardly see what I was supposed to be photographing. For some reason I kept them and with all the building work that's gone on I'm glad I did.
I think this was the Battle of Atlantic celebration. there were lots of planes and choppers anyway. No zoom on my camera then which is just as well as it turns out. All this area is now covered by Malmaison, apartments, offices etc . quite a transformation.

Nice one Q.
Take it easy.:PDT_Piratz_26:
great stuff, quincyg, never throw anything away, backgrounds can be priceless!!!
More 1995 cinemas, etc.
The Apollo, Waterloo (now the Plaza Community Cinema)
Parmount's former premises, off Islington
The Carlton, Orrell Park
The Gainsboro', Bootle
Another Majestic slide
see an excuse for hoarding...I knew there must be one lol.
2 pics of interest for me there. the Paramount building in Fraser St - a family friend works in there now. when he went in back in the 80's there was all sorts of old film stuff there. all too damp to salvage sadly.
The Gainsboro' was just along the road from me. it was derelict when we moved here, now it's completely gone and a rather uninteresting car showroom extension has replaced it.
Great pics there Karen!
Is that Gerrard Gardens in your mums pics?
I went and found some of me old pics from when I was 8 or something...same story what with the backgrounds!
Even found one of Seacombe before it was "Spaceported!"
Is the cinema pictured in Orrell Park now a supermarket or am I getting it mixed up with a similar building?
Cheers Russ, yes I think it is Gerrard Gdns, I know the LMP years ago came along Hunter St then Norton St and down London Rd. My mum used to work in a furniture showroom by the Odeon and we could watch the parades from up there.
The Orrell Park cinema is a bingo hall now.:PDT11
The former Carlton cinema, Orrell Park, survives to date as a bingo club.
Speaking of cinemas, the demolition of the Bedford, Walton, has opened up views UNSEEN for about a century! I can't resist posting these from yesterday.
- And yet another Majestic slide!
Two pics of dereliction on the docks in 1987
And happier times, atmospheric shots of Princes Dock, with the privately owned industrial loco having an outing, July 1971
great pics again Sirob. Oddly enough I took a pic of the post Bedford view Saturday
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Picture827.jpg
was trying to make this writing out on the steps there...something Mitchell is it?
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Picture826.jpg
Abram & Mitchell.
They were auctioneers and were next door when the cinema was open.
They moved into the cinema when it closed, and right up till the end "Auction Galleries" could be seen at the top of the facade.

Amazingly, The Pitch Pine pub on Stanley Road, Kirkdale, has re-opened!
The interior is so dated that it should be seen by more than the customers;
Great pics Sirob, quite some time since I had a pint in there and the shaky nearby - probably about the mid 1980s in fact.
Great pic,s. A shame that you use the groups attache facility when you
could put them on PB so that we get a decent sized image.
