Kirkdale Road. Renovated and looking good.
The Botanic in Wavertree, taken from Matalan's Car Park across the road.
What an inviting view for visitors coming in to Liverpool.

Hi Lindy, the answer to that maybe that peeps are either going further afield, or, Liverpool is going teetotal:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Anyway thought you,d go to a better class boozer:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Shame the area you mention has gone to pot,I use to go in the canon and elmhouse, both good watering holes, cheers,
Ernie.
The boys from SSC use this pub as a city centre meeting point.....

If you go in the bar at the lowest end of the street and look up at that ornate ceiling, my mate and I painted that in 1979 when the building was being refurbished. There were 30 of us on a YTS - around 3 or 4 of us assigned to a particular tradesman and then we'd switch every few weeks. We knocked down walls, burnt paint off old doors, helped repair the roof, worked with the electrician, the plumber, on the Kango drill etc until it came to a sudden halt when we were all finished up because rumour had it that the bosses were claiming for more workers than were actually there but it was a good 6 months, we spent most of our time in the gallery and in that room with the ceiling up a mobile scaffolding which incidentally had no wheels so we had to pull it around, scraping the lovely mosaic floor and when we did under the archways we had to take a layer off the scaffolding.
That Empire pub (thanks Phil) was where my mates and I would get served after the towel was on every time we went there. The Irish barmaid used to like the cut of me jib or something. That used to be our last watering hole before going down to the pier head to have a cup of soup at the all night cafe before we got our various buses home. Sweet memories:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
D'yer mean someone likes something about yer?
Gedrick, some people thought me quite attractive in my younger days lah.
with me tight Wranglers and mint coloured Ben Shirtman, and long hair.
Why even the barman in Maxwell,s Plumb would look out for me on a Saturday night and had my round of drinks on the bar before I ever reached it. My mates did take the P***.
Yes Mark, as you can see Maxwell,s Plumb was one of mine as well.
Maxwell's Plumb, and so is Chippie.
Hey Chippie I didn't know you went to Maxwells :unibrow:
was that the time when you were so drunk you fell asleep on the bus home ??
ha,ha - tell us what happened ! you went around Canny Farm a few times fast asleep didn't you !??
lol !
that was at christmas time and I had to lock up the clinic in the hospital. Went from West Derby road to Canny Farm, back to the Pier Head, then back to Canny Farm. The driver said he,d let me sleep it off for a bit before he awakened me. Had an armful of prezzies too.
Had to go back the next morning to work to check I,d locked the clinic up and put the alarms on...on Christmas Day....:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Hen and Chickens, Melling.
The Royal at the top of BankHall.
I'll tell you what, had to move round the country due to my dads job over the years, but Liverpool to me has the widest range of brilliant boozers, and i mean that for the actual architectural content never mind the amount that serve great beer.

The former Las vegas Amusement Arcade in Skelhorne Street.
Opposite one of the entrances to Lime Street Station.
Until recently this was one of Liverpool's official "Grot spots".
Now it has been tastefully converted into this.
Is this part of the new Gateway to Liverpool?
At least "Larger" is only £1 a bottle. :PDT_Piratz_26:

My God Phil, (sorry for blasphemy) what a dump :PDT_Xtremez_42:
This must be one of the buildings getting knocked down in that area when they redevelop :034: Limestreet..please.. :)
Although I have fond memories of that arcade used to go there to play green beret and commando,
We only had one arcade in oldswan and it did not last very long. think it was next to the HSBC bank around 1979/80..ish
I think it's absolutely disgusting.
We're supposed to be the Capital of Culture next year, and the first thing that people will see when they leave Lime Street Station is this building with one cheap coat of black emulsion and a sign written by illiterates.
Is this the first impression of Liverpool we want to give to visitors?
I've lost all confidence in Liverpool City Council.
If doubles are £2 and largers are £1 are smallers 50p that's what I wanna know la.
Philip, is the Stanley Arms on the same side and location as the abattoir, or am I on the wrong track there?
No, the new Stanley as it was known is on the same side as the abattoir and is directly opposite 'Dixies' the Old Stanley Arms. There doing something to the new Stanley after years of neglect after a fire. Don't know if it'll open as a pub again as I don't think it'll get the clientele to keep it afloat.
Thanks Marky. I used to work for the Salvation Army in the men,s hostel down there. I mustn,t have taken much notice as I wizzed passed on my bike.
:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
The Stanley pub, Stanley, from 4 weeks ago...something must be happening to it. This still had the scaffolding/dust sheets around it, when I passed a few days ago.
I'm not very observant at all!
I walked into the forecourt of the Abattoir to take a photo of that place, and then took a photo of the Old Stanley over the road, and didn't even notice the 'new' Stanley!
I then walked past the church and thought there were too many trees in the way to take a photo, and then I did Cheadle Avenue.

Interesting Art-Deco details.

Too high up to be identified by passers-by.
I wonder if it was some sort of in-joke about 'drinking like fishes'.

Interesting old pub but I can't say I think too much of its two tone exterior paint job. Perhaps that's as far as the ladder would reach.
