Nice photo and nice building built in a time when there was great pride in providing public buildings.
Yes, it's the work of Thomas Shelmerdine and built in 1896. He designed several other libraries etc in his time as Liverpool Corporation Surveyor.Quote:

Toxteth Town Hall is a modern term. The building was constructed in the mid 19th C as offices for the Township of Toxteth Park. Hence the TTP letters in the photograph.

Actually No.75 so i'm told but I did work in here when it was Quiggins hardware store in 1979. A very antiquated set up with the boss man sat behind a big oak desk upstairs.

As it was a complete rip out, all the walls were new plaster after we fitted them.The windows were finnished off inside with splayed cheeks and arcs.They were pre glazed and had the weights fitted so they were heavy (we had 2 lads to gives us a lift in).Quote:
