I assumed your family were at Clarence Grove in the census. By locating them, I could then look at surrounding streets and deduce where Clarence Grove was located.

Default Clarence Grove

Clarence Grove was a little cobbled street off Neptune Street. Neptune Street ran between Raglan Street and Banks Road. Clarence Grove was very narrow with the houses facing each other across the cobbles, fairly close together. From memory I would guess there were maybe five or six houses on each side. Hope this helps.

Welcome and thanks for solving this little problem. I can see the street on the 1905 map now. It's unnamed !!

The band was the Pandamonium Band and my dad (Jimmy Skidmore) was a member back in the 70s & early 80s. What a time they all had - all in the name of charity of course!!

I too remember the dolphins in Garston Baths - I thought I'd dreamt it as everyone I mentioned it to thought I was mad! I think it must have been later than 1970 though.

My Gt Auntie Sophie, used to own the chippy in James Street and her sister Doris used to own the dairy in the same steet - back in the 50s & 60s. Their father was William Jackson.

I remember the Parades that used to end up on the Park where there would be a fairgound. The 1977 Silver Jubilee is the one that stands out in my mind - probably because of the big street party we had after it.

I used to love walking through the tree lined park with my Grandma, in the days before dutch elm disease.

Regards
Helen
Hi Helen, do you remember me, my dad is jimmy harwood from the band. We went on a few holidays together with my sisters jane debbie and maria and my brother john.

Is the Sailing club on the Mersey Way Garston or Speke?

Captured this on the dried out sandbanks halfway Into the Mersey after 3pm.

I too have many happy memories of Garston, having lived in the Tennies in Speke road Inever considered "under the bridge" as home territory. The cinder Path was like the Great Divide, you were going into hostile territory if you ventured down that path after school hours. As you grew up such borders disappeared and you came to acknowledge all of Garston as your home patch.
My elder sister,Jess, moved to Shakespeare Street in the early 60's and when I visited her I found it to be one of the friendliest places in Liverpool. There was a terrific sense of community and there was a very special dog that lived in that street,Rocky. Rocky owned the street and all of the children who lived in it,as the little ones played their games ,Rocky would patrol up and down the pavement keeping a watchful eye over them. If a car should enter the street he would gently nudge the children to the pavement ,out of harms way. Should a stranger walk down the street Rocky would escort them ,ensuring they did not touch the children. One summers day back then,I had taken my nephew and niece to the circus and was walking them down King Street, holding their hands and I had their little coats over my wrists. Upon entering the street I saw Rocky halfway down it and of a sudden his head came up and he raced toward me.Not aggressively,he came up to me and gently freed their little hands from mine and grabbed their coats from my wrists and walked between me and the children all the way to my sisters house. A fantastic dog ,much loved by all in the street,I was a fan too,but Rocky did'nt trust strangers so it was a one way fanship.

Thanks Kev, I only discovered the Mersey Way last February. The airport Is annoying when I like to go to Oglets Lane though as It would be easier and a straight route to Oglets from Gartson If the airport wasn't In the way.

The tipping arond the Mersey Way Is Insane though.
