    Default Clarence Dock Area

Found this in a Clarence Dock rest room yesterday.
Had one of these in our house "when I were lad".Cast iron kettle on the hob always on the boil, topped up every now and when it ran low with evaporation,Sunday dinner cooked in the oven, with the teatime scones, and in the winter evenings draw plates taken out, covered with a cloth and used
as bedwarmers all with one fire

Alright I`ll give it it`s full title Clarence Graving Docks which are only filled in with water. See Dock gates thread.

These are old railway lines which were used to feed the Clarence power station. The Clarence dock was eventually used to store coal in as it was discharged from trains and when the power station was demolished they filled the dock in with the rubble.

This is the same room as the grate in the Clarence Graving Docks
The mirrors in good nick, the shelf in the corner could be for a TV or the gas meter

    Default Clarence Dock

That pic of the grate brought some memories back, Joe,most of all your
mention of covering the hot oven shelves with old pieces of blanket to heat the beds in the winter. It was another world!

    Fab photos again Joe

I would love a walk around this area, especially around the clock. Is it easy to get in?

It isn`t now Kev since Peel Holdings took it over. The main entrace to the Waterloo Dock was always left open. I fished the Mersey there for many years up to last year, even while they were doing the canal link. They lock the gates now but some days they are left open so I just meander in and take some pics. I have only been approached once in the Clarence by security who asked me if I had finished taking my pics as they were locking up for the day and kindly offered me a lift to the entrance.

Great pictures Joe. Nice one. Love looking at the old docks. I used to queue up there in the sixties in me dads wagon. The queues were long and slow.
