I believe the vessel on her side was the liner "Empress of Canada" which caught fire and was gutted in the early 1950's.
I think that the foremast of the "Vigilant" is the one that is currently located
    alongside the Liver Building.

I think I boobed. The mast alongside the Liver Building is from the "Salvor",
the fireboat and not from "Vigilant". I drove past it last weekend when I was over there and remember seeing the name on the top.

Thanks Spike, but I thought it looked a bit big,for a salvage boat! The post from Harbourm would seem to be right, but I can only wonder why it was titled "Vigilant", a mistake, probably!

    P.S. I assume it's Liverpool,maybe Prince's dock?

    Default Vigilant.

Hi all, If you go to the Unseen Liverpool forum, page 15,post 147, there is a picture from Sirob of the "Salvor" and "Vigilant" at Garston, awaiting their last voyage in 1979. Sad end for two ladies of the sea.

The 671-ton triple expansion steam salvage ship T S SALVOR, was built by Ferguson Bros of Port Glasgow in 1947, as well as a salvage role, she also acted as a buoy tender. The 728-ton T S VIGILANT, built by Thorneycroft in 1953 was a similar buoy, salvage and survey ship. A replacement VIGILANT, of 817 grt, was built by Scheepswerf Waterhuizen BVJ in 1978, but unlike the older steam tenders was powered by twin Ruston diesel engines.

Vigilant pictured with burning Empress of Canada in Gladstone Dock. Liverpool. Can`t remember the year but I`m sure you can look that up on the net.

    Ken.
