Default Townsend Lane, then and now

Townsend Lane by Larkhill. The building on the corner of Cherry lane
is the old Manchester and counties bank.

    Excellent shot there!

Townsend Lane is quite old, I think it is the old way of getting from Ann Field and Mare Green to Stoneycroft and Tue Brook Via Lisburn Lane one thinks???

Townsend Lane/Avenue and Larkhill should feature in a upcoming Flickr Update if your interested.

The original towns end lane of course was Byrom st, when it really was the towns end at the top of Dale st. It then became Dog kennel lane after the structures that housed the Corporation's pack of hounds.

Right peeps; update is now up and running for your viewing pleasure.

Now I haven't been on the forum asking for info so some of the captions might be a little to vague for your likening. If this is the case, please add info!

Sadly I slightly over estimated how many images there are so I hope 15 isn't a disappointment.

    Enjoy all!

    EDIT:

Larkhill Lane does feature as does Maiden Lane and the gardens in Larkhill itself.

    Thanks Wallasey.

My grandmother was born off Maiden lane. She used to tell us that it was 'in the country'

It was quite rural before the council estates were built.

    Thanks for this; much appreciated!

    Apologies for late reply.

Lindylou: Its hard to imagine Maiden Lane being a winding country lane, but the old properties and the mature trees can help us imagine what it would have been like. Many thanks for your comments!
