If it's exactly opposite the Swedish Church, and on the corner of Greetham Street, it is listed in 1936 as being occupied by Guinness, Brewers.
Even so, I don't think it was actually run as a pub - probably just their offices in Liverpool.
Does anybody know if Guinness was brewed (or even bottled) in Liverpool?

excellent info and pic thank you sir!

a very merry christmas to you

It closed because it was meant to be pulled down for the Merseytram which never got built. This is the same case with the Botanic on Picton Road.

    Default The Villiars, Aug 1985.

This was on the corner of Eliot Street and Great Charlotte Street (where George is).
It was demolished in Dec 1985 for the Clayton Square redevelopment.

Yeah there was last year I think, a vagrant/drug addict who looks like he'd gone their for a kip and never woke up.

It was a bit of a nostalgia trip today, many years ago I used to work in North West Waterin Merton House Stanley Rd and the Jawbone was a regular Friday wind down pub. I went in there today for the first time in 13 years and loved it.

Yeah I've had many a good night in the Merton too, but much prefered the Jawbone, I must admit its been ages since I was down in Bootle village but can still remember a few good weekends down there.
