Smart.That's ok George.
It wouldbe geat to have one o St Domingo at 68/69 right in the middle where the shops where as the houses o flats above the shops were dead weird.
One house became vacant and it was our hideout for a while, some smart alec decide that it would be great to take the floorboads up and he was right...it got us into the sweetshop below...getting back out was no mean feat though because ar local tomboy got herself stuck in the bloody ceiling(First glimpse of a girls knickers) we had to hack the ceiling away to make the hole bigger.
Do you remembe the long wall running down the Street ? that was the stone church wallof St Georges over the wall was the graveyard
There's a pic in ths thread with the washouse in the street, thats Grecian Terrace.
George , i thought you said you were 9 years my senior ! Anyway , when you're little , well when i was little , i never really looked at the names of the streets , i just always knew where i was going ....... I never went very far ....
Those houses and shops on St Domingo , i'm sure there was a tramp living in one of them once ...We used to bring him sweets , or have i been dreaming again ...
There was a Tramp locally but like yourmemory its ve vague. Those houses and shops on St Domingo , i'm sure there was a tramp living in one of them once ...We used to bring him sweets , or have i been dreaming again ...
Maybe if I wote a few pages of my upbringing around there, might jog it?
The lower part of the wall in pic 2 which was sandstone and still there now was the original perimeter wall of St. Domingo House of which there was quite a bit of history attached to it and I would have thought it could have been retained and another plot of land secured for the tennies.
St Domingo house was the rectory for the church and next to the house was the boys social club.
Are you sure it still doesn't run along Penrose Street?
You're off the radar there,Ged...that wall you're on about is the old Tommy whites wall as Penrose street is the other side of St Domingo Road.if this the wall you're on about? Are you sure it still doesn't run along Penrose Street?
