Was she Mart, good on her. Yes Pablo there is an element in that it was probably the same for everyone, even streets and estates, you know open doors, dare not giving cheek etc, it just seems eccenuated in the confines of the squares. There was that many people you knew that you couldn't go far without seeing/talking to someone and getting involved in a game or something.
Yeah know what you mean Ged. Any back chat or mischief and it soon got back to your parents. That was a time when all the dads went to the pub every night. Looking back, it seemed a lot better then. Funny though, I seem to remember the old ones cursing and cussing us for our wanton behaviour. Some things never change.
On another though not dissimilar note. One caller rang in to ask, if he'd got it right that corporal punishment was stopped because it would learn kids to be aggresive and see that violence gets you your way. When Roger Phillips said yes, in a way, the caller then asked why society is so much more violent now then and put it down more to the lack of deterent as all the kids who are now so mamby pambied (As in no deterents in school), are much more likey to be violent that back when. Well you know the rest.
Dunno if the lack of corporal punishment is a bad thing. I was a beaten child when I was younger, even got beaten at school. I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else. I think reasons for bad behaviour are a bit deeper than corporal punishment. There's also the break up of families to throw in the arguement. There seems to be a general breakdown of society.
Jeez, that reunion article has certainly stirred things up, 2 more letters in the echo last night - one for - one against and another scathing one tonight by all accounts. We're 3 -1 down at the mo, but it's not even half time yet - time for a comeback yet.
Ya wanna welcome the knockers Ged, that's all they got to do whinge. Make it a good night and have a pint for them.
Sorry I saw the word Knockers and thought this was about something else

Well that was one in the eye for the 'knockers' - It was an absolutely fabulous night with a full house any many more last minute scramblers for tickets sadly having to be knocked back as they'd reached the full quota for the hall.
The whiners should arrange for their own get togethers and see how many turn up? As for the 'being no community' back then - with standing room only and over 300 ex residents there - almost one person for every flat - need I say anymore. In fact little groups of some of these people already keep in contact with each other in the local pubs or the houses they're now in nearby.
I was made up seeing some people I hadn't seen for years - a great success.
Thats a couple of knockers you mentioned there Ged
Made up it was a great success, any pics ?
Thanks Mart and yes, there'll be quite a few on my website, not even put them on the pc yet, still recovering yesterday - 3.15 am we got out of the club - hope I don't get them into trouble there.
300 people all having quite a few drinks ....
I suspect they'd like you there every week
