These are Liverpools two seals from old documents that I've looked at:
The Ancient One (original lost sometime around the Civil War)
The Newer One
This may not be a Liverbird, but it is in Liverpool.

It is on the pouch of an old insurance policy from Royal Liver.
Nice, Fortinian and Devo!
Fortinian, the last one you posted looks more like a heron than the cormorant-like Liver Bird. The legs for one thing appear too long and the head appears wrong too. Also I think cormorants eat fish not frogs as this beastie is shown doing. Just my opinion.

There's a cocktail called Squashed Frog I had one in a Tapas bar in fact I had a few!
Oh as I was young and easy in the mercy of his means,
Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea.

I think you may be right. The only problem is that I can't find any significance to having a heron on a church. Usually the animals on church buildings have a specific theological meaning. All I can find is a 'crane' or 'stork' which represent 'vigillance' and 'filial duty' respectively.
On the other hand... it might just be a heron because the mason liked them.

Just noticed that you said it was on a church so maybe not that one after all?
