I'm very pleased with the redevelopment of the waterfront area. I had the chance to take some photographs this weekend (MAR 2010) for the first time:

    The Ferry Terminal Building:

    The New Liverpool Museum:

    Default Museum

Zaha Hadid's new Museum in Rome is up for the Stirling prize this year. An uncanny resemblance to 3XN's Liverpool design methinks. Didn't Hadid compete with 3XN for the Liverpool Museum? I wonder what her design would have looked like?

I know the new buildings at the Pier Head have their critics, but I have to say the more I see them, the more I think they have them spot on. The area feels open, and the mix of old and new is fantastic, let's sort out the landing stage and we will have a waterfront everybody should be proud of.. Peolpe don't remember the plain old boring, they remember the bold and the different.

I was privileged to watch a couple of short (9 mins each) films last night that will be going into the new museum. One concerning Gerard Gardens which is a drastically shortened version of Paul Sudbury's Gardens of Stone (without the offending copyright soundtrack and samples of films he uses and has permission for). The other is about the courts and put together by the Museum's appointed production company and uses some of Paul's images. Both will accompany other visual aspects of the subject matter including a 'mock up Court' similar to which was in the old museum of Liverpool life. The Museum is currently being fitted out which will take until next Spring - apparently.

But will it look bold in 50 years time, or just plain dated?

The existing buildings - the Three Graces - look stately. Will the museum look stately in 2060?

    Time will tell.

who can predict what will happen in fifty years.
perhaps fifty years from now will be destroyed the terminal building, and this place will be a park.

Does anybody know when the term Three Graces first came into use, and how did it come about?

    While not quite uniquely named...

Could this be where it all began...

I agree about making a prediction, but if "bold architecture" doesn't look bold (or stately) in 50 years, then we are just building disposal structures....

Who said buildings had to be permanent?
    Are any buidings permanent?
The crumbling pyramids and the fate of the World Trade Centre suggest otherwise.
