    Default Cheapside

TWO Victorian warehouses in Liverpool’s World Heritage Site are the latest buildings to be listed in the city.

The warehouses, in Cheapside, have been given grade II listed status by the Department for Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS).

They were recommended for listing as part of a continuing review of historic buildings in the area by the city council and English Heritage as part of the HELP (Historic Environment of Liverpool Project).

The buildings, nos 11-13 and 23-27, date from the late 19th century and are important examples of fireproofing construction in warehouses.

What sets them apart is their design, which has “elaborate principle elevations of polychromatic brickwork and fine decorative detail.”

Cllr Berni Turner, the council’s Historic Environment Champion, said:Š “The city council and English Heritage are involved in reviewing the buildings in the World Heritage site.

“We’ve identified some 60 buildings for potential listing and these warehouses are among them.”

I wonder if this will affect the value of the buildings — UP or DOWN?

I'd have thought it would restrict what a potential owner owner could do to, or with them.

    Any thoughts?
