    Default Bingo Clubs - Merseyside

Besides local history, another interest of mine is bingo. Not so much playing - though I do enjoy it - but researching bingo history.

I'd be interested to ehar from anyone who may have photos of bingo clubs on Merseyside or even better - something I'm really looking for - old membership cards. Ask your mams and nans if they can help!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who may be able to help me with this.

    Cheers, Ross.

Bingo saved a lot of former cinemas, and came in when cinemas were closing.
    1961, I think.
Most cinemas went over to bingo, but in Liverpool only two survive.
The Garston Empire and the Carlton in Orrell Park.

Other former cinemas in Merseyside, now on bingo.
    Seacombe, the Embassy.
    Southport, the former Garrick/Essoldo.
    St Helens, the Hippodrome.

I understand the Garston Empire is to be demolished to provide a car park for the planned extended Garston Hospital.

    OMG!

Unfortunately, I've learned that Liverpool City Council, and especially English Heritage, aren't interested in Liverpool's old cinema buildings.
The Garston Empire is a very rare cine-variety theatre from WWI, but even I have to admit that the exterior is - to put it politely - very plain.

The former Picture House in Moreton is still a bingo hall.

Another bingo that I really like is the Orion - Cleveleys, Blackpool.

    The Hippodrome in St Helens.
Like Seacombe and Southport, it was originally a theatre.
