    Default Gerry and the Pacemakers

    Hi All

Any experts out there on Gerry and the Pacemakers?

My uncle David Johnson claims he was in the group, yet he was a naughty boy and was sent to a Borstal, while there he was replaced in the group.

Now im told they used to practice in my Nan and grandads yard in Northumberland street. When my Nan died in 1997, a wreath was sent courtesy of the group.

any ideas if i can find anything out on this please?

    cheers

    Tony

    Hi Tony

Not that this is definitive and we all know the downsides of Wikipedia and its volunteer editors, but David Johnson is not listed among the former members of Gerry and the Pacemakers on the Wiki page for the group. Neither did a google search that I made come up with verification. Maybe he sat in with them in the early days? If there is truth in his claim, maybe some website or book on the Merseybeat scene might confirm it? Good luck in trying to find out.

    All the best

    Cheers Chris

I will look in the library for books. he must have known them as they sent the wreath to my Nans funeral. thats the first thing i knew about it, i was reading the wreath wondering why are they sending one? then family members told me that story.

    Hi Tony

What you said about the group practicing in your Nan and Grandad's yard in Northumberland street sounds plausible. That's the kind of detail that a book that details the history of the band should include ... as well as possibly your uncle being part of the group for a while. Good luck in your research, Tony.

If Spencer Leigh doesn't know it, it never happened.

Check his Merseybeat books out or listen to him on Radio Merseyside. Top dog on the subject.
