is the Childwall Brook that has been channelized and diverted underground? I know when it rained while I was living with my grandparents on Aigburth Hall Avenue, the bottom of the garden would always flood, and I used to think it was "Solomon's Vaults" reappearing. I wrote a poem about myself and a mate of mine digging to find Solomon's Vaults. I'll put it in the "creative" area.

That's exactly my view on the situation. I don't believe that it was water that had just collected (although it may have contributed) but there was a good 'fountain' coming out of a grid under the bridge and my guess is that the brook was swollen enough to come to the surface. When the bridge was built, they were told what they were building on but didn't listen...
