Liverpool is short of private high quality high rise apartment buildings. They bring lots of people into an area with a high spending power, revitalise it and turn it around. High quality high rises in the dock waterways complex what is needed and all the quays have apartment, retail and leisure facilities built right on them – making a Venice or Amsterdam feel and look. People like living in and around water – that is why no docks or waterways should ever be filled in for any reason whatsoever. The city then will expand onto the waterways and river.

This will attract intelligent business minded people back to the city and entrepreneurial types from outside too to project the city forwards. High rises give fantastic views of the docks, river, city, and beyond making them very attractive indeed.

Liverpool can achieve this in a short timescale if a proper plan was in place. The dock waterways are there just waiting for a proper plan to make the city on the water.

Think New York, Monte Carlo, Amsterdam, San Francisco, etc, not Leeds or Leicester.

That is why it should be demolished. Putting a car park on a quayside is utter madness. Only in Liverpool. What a way to get waterbased city.

I agree with you about opening the dock wall and increasing the accessibility of the dock and waterfront from the rest of the city centre.
Many of the buildings, such as that awful car park, act as walls to the waterways.

Yep, they should have. But this is Liverpool; they turned down Brunswick Quays tower. What other city in the world would do that? Especially a city like Liverpool, which needs as much as it can get in high quality investment.

The people who run the city are not in the real world. They have no idea, no vision and no end goal, no sweet nothing. No wonder the city has a do-nothing-city image.

Would be nice to have leisure facilities in them like World Trade Center had in New York.

Apparently there using nearly all of it for residential. Maybe they should of started building the Otterspool tower instead of cancelling it then.

They already have the completed Beetham towerand the Unity for residential.

An awful lot has been achieved over the last few years, if we were a city doing nothing, we wouldn't be here discussing Liverpool developments etc.

I hope the attitudes/ wranglings of Politicians is in the past so Liverpool can move forwards without problems.

Nothing iconic at all. Nothing that stirs the rest of the world.

Some hope. For the past 10 years there has been hot air about new stadia in the city - so far, nothing. In the meantime Manchester built a brand new one and has fully update another, while one club in the city still has wooden stands. ...and they wonder why!!!

I recall about three years ago Paxman interviewing an expert on regeneration on Newsnight. Paxman mentioned the regeneration in Liverpool. The expert responded that Liverpool has done little while Manchester surged ahead. He mentioned the new city centre development in Manchester and other projects, saying Liverpool would still be arguing over these and never gets anything done. He was not complimentary towards the city at all. Those in power think this way too.

The image has to be changed ASAP. A few forgettable apartment buildings is not going to do that. The European City of Culture will be short lived and outside Liverpool few know of it.

No this tower's more slender you can see how wide it's going to be from that picture.

They like many who have not visited the city for a few years ,held the typical image of a dirty and derelict jungle. We still have a long way to go, 2008 will put in the spotlight, I know the people of this city will rise to the occasion , lets hope that the "city fathers" don`t let us down.

The Beetham West looks like it's going to be massive.

It will certainly be the tallest ( I hope only for a short while) but the most elegent tower IMO will be the Pelli tower in Liverpool One.
