This building on the corner of Nelson St was once the shop I bought my camping gear from, then it was taken over by Euroleasure but I thinks it`s
empty now. The date stone gives the wrong year it was built as it was much
earlier. Chambre Hardman took a photo of it in 1976 and in the catalogue it says it was built 1784

Langdons. They made tents. I thing they stated making sails for ships then motor vessels came in a big way and other ways of make canvas products came about. They were in business way into the 1970s.

looking at it maybe the date relates to the top floor being added, i don't think its original. maybe the original roofline relates to the roofline on the left hand side

    Thumbs up

Great pics 'gregs dad'. I think the arch is one of the most impressive landmarks in the city, superb!

Could be. However each floor has totally different window styles, which makes me think it may have been built that way and the extension is to the left. If it is an addition, it is a good one.

    I don't know how I missed this.
The 1887 date refers to when Langdon's took it over.
It had been built about 1858, and looked pretty much as it does now.
An extension was built behind in the 1930s which covered the site of the 'Scandinavian Hotel'.
