I have worked quite close to the Cottage Homes for over 20 years. What has always fascinated me is the fact that one of the houses in all that period of time has been derelict.

The one on the west side of the clock tower near the swimming pool.

The wall that was obviously built around it looked like it had been there quiet a while when I first cut through there in the late 1980s.

Does anyone know why this one of the houses became derelict and why nonone has ever tried to restore it nor has there been any attempt to knock it down.

Some years ago there appeared to be a plan to sell the whole site off for conversion to residential use and apartments but nothing appeared to come of it.

The site must have quite a history - perhaps one day someone will write one?

    Default Bluebell Woods Fazakerley.

    Thanks a bunch Chris.
Here's why it is called "Bluebell Woods". (One time it used to be a mass of Bluebells, that was until they built HMP Altcourse and chopped down loads of trees.)

I was brought up in the FCH and spent some time in Cosh 15 which is the one burned out next to what was the club and over the road from the church - that was. I did attend some of the reunions, but having seen the mess they had made of the church, I was very sad and did not go again.

It used to be called The Cottage homes, Then Newhall, I visited there quite alot as my brother lived there. Awful place it was. So glad that Newhall closed down, and put people with disabilities into the community. The best thing they could have ever done.

I have walked the Fazakerley grounds for many years. I remember the old clock house.
    Thanx for the reminder Chris.
Always wondered where Clock House was Zapp, seen it on maps but theres no evidence of it, even in the 70s when it was my playground, you must remember Harbreck House, or the White House as we knew it in the 70s,with the rookery on the bridge and the orchard, and the Lodge on Higher Lane, the gates stil exist.....just.

In Winter you can see the gateposts of Higher Lane dairy farm at the entrance from Long Lane, on the left.
