My old street,Reading St in Kirkdale in 1953 at the time of the Coronation Parties. The street was divided into 3 blocks, top middle and bottom, this is the top block`s party, there was 2 more parties going on at the same time.
The shop on the corner was Sykes bakery shop later taken over by Scott`s bakery. The advertising hoardings on the right are standing on a bomb site from W W 2.
Notice all the different chairs from the houses,I hope they all got the their right chairs back.

Great pic GD. I thought you were playing Barrymore's strike it lucky there with your top, middle and bottom - any hot spots around there

Howcome they demolished the overheard railway? That would of been cool to look at.

My dad remembers them since he's 64 and lived In the city but my mum was grew up In a convent with nuns around Woolton and Speke so she never seen them.

    Maintenance costs by all accounts.

It may be easy to get all romanticised about whether it'd be great these days as those docks are not lined with wonderful vessels anymore and the way the tourist industry was here in the 1970s and 80s with the council not cashing in onthe Beatles (and those people go on to see other sights)

These days, one of those where the carriages hang below the monorail or a tilting train running from the airport to Southport along the front would be imaginitive if marketed properly.

It was rotting and falling down. It had been neglected during WW2. The same with New Brighton Tower, which was neglected in WW1:

A hanging monorail would be good, as takes little land and does not block views too much.

I recieved this newspaper cutting from an old friend who lived in Reading St.
It`s the middle block of Reading St`s Coronation party in 1953 showing 4 judies from the street. The one on the left is my sister at 18 years of age.

    Default The 'Judies"!!

Yeah! that made me smile too, NL, brought back some great memories. Also liked the way we called every girl 'Love'! I still do it! and get some funny looks from the old (& young) dears in the supermarket when I say "Excuse me Love"!!!

    Default Judies

Thanks GD for bringing back "judies" to mind - Yes, they were also
Judies in the 30's. Can anybody think of how and when they first got the
    name?
And like you, Norm, I still call people "Love" from time to time. But I
got that from my Mum who came from Ormskirk.
