    People,

Can anyone tell me if these beautiful old ladies ever visited Liverpool in their life time?

    Any pictures?

They never sailed up the Mersey. The government stipulated to Cunard, to get the American mail contract their biggest liners had to use southern England ports.

The ships had Liverpool written on their sterns, owned by a Liverpool company and were conceived with much design done in Liverpool.

Another episode of the raping of Liverpool by London. Another was the Customs moving to London - they would not renovate the burnt out Customs House after WW2, in Canning Place, pulled it down and moved to London.

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no

canals to view its modern museum describing
    how it once was?

    Thanks for your answer Waterways.

So, although they never sailed up the Mersey, did they ever 'salute' their home port?

Wasn't there a story many years ago regarding Michael Heseltine wanting to bring the Queen Mary to Liverpool from Long Beach?? Or am I talking complete drivel...??
