    Hi Shirleya,
did you ever live there? If so, did you know Betty Steele and family? I lived there myself, very briefly, about 1966!

A picture of Egerton Street, 16th May 1966, appears on page 26 of the book:
    AINSCOUGH’S LIVERPOOL
    By Harry Ainscough
    Published by The Bluecoat Press
    £7.99 ISBN 1 872568 64 5
This book is usually in St. Johns market for around a fiver.

The view is looking down the middle of the street, towards Catherine Street. You can see the terraced housing on either side of the street.
The pictures in this book were taken from the Liverpool library.

Did you know though Marky that Harry Ainscough (born in Ormskirk) but living his life in Sheffield, took photos there too but their council were not interested in paying him for his developing costs or expenses. He travelled to Liverpool often and photographed here instead and those Ainscough stamped pics you see in the LRO were actually taken and donated to our Council's archive by him - a legend isn't he.

I knew that. But what I only found out a couple of years ago, was that his son has several thousand unsorted pictures. There was a website by him, in which he stated he was intending to catalogue them, starting with the thousands of Sheffield pictures. I think it stated he had Liverpool ones also. I don't know what happened to this project, or the website.
Edit: I've just googled and re-checked the website and can't find a reference to Liverpool pics, I thought it did. I should have e-mailed him at the time, just to check if he had anymore. The site, doesn't appear to be 'live' anymore.

He must've took thousands, I have quite a few of them on my B&W post war pics page on my site with the permission of the LRO.

Even nondescript little side streets, alleyways, ramshackle businesses, tennies, high rise - the lot. I think we're very lucky he chose Liverpool and that he did decide to bequest them to the LRO and that they in turn got that grant to archive and show them.

I did see that site one time with the Sheffield pics on.
