Former Liverpool boxing champ Alan Rudkin dies after collapsing in street
    Sep 22 2010 Helen Hunt

POLICE are probing the death of a Liverpool boxing champ who collapsed in the street.

Alan Rudkin, 68, was taken to hospital in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, September 22) but later died.

The cause of his death is unclear.

Officers are treating the death as "unexplained" and were waiting for the results of a post mortem examination.

The former Commonwealth and European bantamweight boxing champ was found collapsed on Mount Street, which is close to Paul McCartney's school of performing arts.

CCTV from the area was being sought and officers were making house-to-house enquiries.

    Default Alan Rudkin.

Sad news, truly one of Liverpool's greatest boxers of all time.

I saw him fight several times and got to meet him after he'd retired and was managing the Noah's Ark in Speke.

I was only talking to Johnny Cooke about him in the Carnarvon Castle just a couple of weeks ago.

    A true Liverpool legend.

I second that, been meaning to contact Jamie Carraghers Sports Cafe for ages to get him up on the wall with the other Liverpool Sporting greats.

I gave him a lift home one night when I was in my official capacity! I saw Alan walking along Vauxhall Road the worse for wear a bit so I took him home when he lived somewhere around Boundary Street.
