Default Esk Street & Bootle Police Courts

    save Devo some energy!
ESK ST today...bit overcast, but at least the rain held off

    behind the walls

noticed this on one of the bricks on Esk St wall. not sure if it's graffiti or what, but took a pic in case it was summat of interest

Bootle Police Courts. the Incwell sign covers the bit that had police entrance on. End building was also used as a Post Office at some time

Talking County Police Station - Rice Lane, Walton

me and my solo pass have been busy bunnies today.
this is the old County Station on Rice Lane, Walton.

on the gate posts I could just make out where there had been a coat of arms...so I looked at the back of one, hoping it had survived the weather a bit more...it hadn't really. I think it may be a Liverbird as it looked like birds feet at the bottom

had a wander round the back and there was a gate open...how convenient...

A picture of Upper Essex Street is at:
    http://www.toxteth.net/places/liverp...street%202.htm
Garston Constabulary Station is shown in Post No.363 of this thread:
    http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/sho...bulary&page=19

Colins Bridewell is now called Jalons Bridewell.
The Hope Street building is being re-developed at this very moment.

There was also one in Jordan Street (off Jamaica Street), but my map doesn't show its' precise location.
A few others still stand including Durning Road (Fire Police Station) and Aigburth Vale.

I've got a 1967 map, but it's not showing on that.

My gtgt grandparents lived opposite the Durning Rd one. I'll be going over to Wavertree on a photo expedition next week. will get some up to date photos of Durning Rd whilst I'm over that way.

    What period?
    The 1890, 1905 & 1925 OS maps don't show anything.

Jordan Street is listed in an online directory (Gores 1900, part 3, page 2047). I just entered Bridewells, but the search is a bit slow. It seems a hard one to locate, as it appears in a directory, but not on a map. Toxteth.net is unsure, also:

    http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp
Also mentioned is Brunswick Dock, but I wonder if they mean the Police Station next-door to the Customs Depot at Toxteth Dock/Hydraulic Pumping Station. This one is present on maps around 1900.

It sounds like the Jordan Street police station would have been short lived, and didn't last long enough to be on the 1905 map.
Probably in an existing building anyway.

They were all over the docks.
Presumably the Dock Police were MD&HB employees.

had a shufty on the web and found this

    Britannia Recruitment & Training
    20 Jordan Street, Liverpool, L1 0BP

only a visit would determine the age of the building
