It's a small world eh WW. I'll check the house number.

Gnomie has helped me out greatly on my family tree and how spooky that when tracing my family later to Milton Street, (the kingsway tunnel entrance is there now on Scotland Road), it transpired that they lived next door to Gnomie's gt grandad and they had children of the same age who no doubt would have played out together being neighbours.

About 5 years ago my sister wanted the list of graves at Ford Cemetery. She Googled and found one man who had the lot in microfiche - he was an American living in Chicago. His family were from Liverpool. To get the grave number we had to go get it from the USA We found his family lived a few doors from my mother in the 1930s in Pitt St.

He found this rare colour picture of his relatives in Pitt St - by chance in a "garage sale".

Tesco bought out Irwins around 1961/62.

No later than 1961, possibly 1960.
I started work at Irwins in Southport in June 1961 and Tesco had it then, and converted it to a Tesco self-service later in 1961.
I've still got a Holophane glass light shade that I rescued.

    .
Thanks. It saddens me knowing how Granby looks now, don't want to start a rant about how successive Liverpool councils have neglected the fringes of the city centre

I only noticed the other day that Colemans, Park Road has a For Sale sign on it. This is one of the most photographed buildings in Toxteth.

    It's not Listed.
I don't know if it's ever been submitted.
    I'll try and find out.
I wonder if it'll get part-demolished, as that seems to be the trend.
It's to avoid paying taxes on empty business premises.
The upper windows were pulled out.

    Thanks, Lindylou.
I just took a sneaky photo, and was pleased with how it turned out.

Devonshire Road animal. This has been mentioned before. I think it's a Lion/Lioness, probably in some sort of heraldric pose. It has paws rather than hooves and has a swan-like tail with a tuft at the end. It looks similar to others I've seen around Liverpool.

I'm only on page 4 reading through this thread but felt I needed to reply and confirm the above. My friend's husband is a police officer in the Lake district and he and other colleagues were drafted down to Liverpool during the riots. I always remember him critising Merseyside Police and their bad attitude towards the public. He also mentioned racism, described as rife.
