That coat of arms is very interesting, first of all I doubt very much that it is Masonic,it is a classic piece of heraldry. The shield ,or escutcheon is topped by a talbot ,or hunting dog, this was a symbol of watchfulfulness .The motto at the bottom confirms this ,Semper Vigilans ,in English, ever alert or Eternal Vigilance.
The chevron, sometimes mistaken for the Masonic square, mean that the holder of the arms had built something in the way of protection such as a castle and had accomplished some act of faithful service. The drops on the chevron and escutcheon were called guttees and the colour of them is of great significance.White indicates that they had endured a torrent of liquid ,perhaps in a sea battle. The red hand ,,usually seen today as a symbol of Ulster, in heraldry signifies a pledge of faith ,sincerity and justice. The lions rampant depict bravery in battle. So you have there a coat of arms that belonged to a noble who was loyal to monarch and had distinguished himself in battles. does it belong to the Brooke family?

[QUOTEWhat need does a student have for a car in Liverpool. (Apart from weekly trips to buy the pot noodle supplies )[/QUOTE]

Probably a cheaper option than travelling by rail these days!

Park Rd blocked off this afternoon, between Harlow St and Park St... Two of the three buildings next to the old TSB have been demolished/collapsed. The two on the left in this picture:

    Unhappy

Over the years I've seen a number of lovely buildings left to rot and then fall down. I work a minute away from Park Road and pass the buildings often - they looked bad - but not bad enough to just fall down.

I'm always curious about the owners of these buildings, and why they have left, what are financial assets,go to rack and ruin? Also,if a building is left empty, surely this would "flag up" on the council's rate returns,so why, after a specified period, couldn't they basically give them away, for responsible refurbishment/re-development! Surely a better fate than demolition, for many!

Park Road. The scaffolding around the old TSB only appeared in the last few days.

Good, if not sad pic Marky. I got a pic of that row last year, something should have been done with it. The council need to make all owners of old buildings accountable.

Since 2007 have not empty buildings been liable for rates after six months?

This was brought in to deter speculators buying up property and holding it empty. Theoretically reducing the liklihood of buildings being left vacant for lengthy periods
