St. Michaels Area

Again, I'm looking for info about this area. I turned down the rd that runs by the Kwick Save and...wow! How charming!

A month or so ago they were fixing that church up, one side had scaffoldings.

Nice looking Church and I never knew about It or spotted It till last year.

I pass It If I use St Michael's station which Is round the corner.

According to Wiki a once very wealthy church.

If you go at Sunset you can get a cool shot of this but I didn't have my wide angle till New Years eve.

You might find the Liverpool Rangers mega 6 hour walk worth a try. They run it a couple of times a year I think and the next one by coincidence is next Sunday 24 Feb 08. It covers a lot more than just St Michaels and of course they may have changed the route this year so you would need to give them a ring to check.

The best bit was all the special permissions they had obtained from owners of the historic buildings so we could all get a nosey round their back gardens. Also got to go in the student halls grounds which also have impressive views of more old houses.

This is what I said about it after going on it last year...

I survived the 6 hour walk round the "Ancient Toxteth Deer Park" put on by the Liverpool Rangers.

The route we took was Sefton Park Aigburth Vale end, Palm House, Cafe, out near Ullet Road and past the Park Lodge that Kev had a tour round, into Princes Park, out the Belvidere Road end, down to the Ancient Chapel of Toxteth, then to the Turner Home where we got a look inside including the chapel. Then down towards the river via the steep steps at the end of Grafton Street. Lunch at the Brittania then along Riverside Drive through Priory Wood, all the usual St Michaels in the Hamlet stuff including special permission back garden views, back through Priory Wood and across the fields to the river. Then along the prom to Otterspool and through the Otterspool park ending at Jericho Lane.

Every inch of the way John the ranger was pointing stuff out and showing old photos and maps and stuff. The route wasnt the boundary walk I was expecting but covered a lot of ground and did give you an idea of the scale of the "park".

A superb walk. Highly recommended.
