The decoys on the Dee did work to an extent. Some bombs were dropped over there. Not many but they could have blown an ammunition ship...never know.
The Welsh in North Wales also lit fires pointing the direction of Liverpool.

Getting back to the thread. I think the older buidings are far better than the new - although some new ones are o.k.

Is there really any historic evidence that the Irish and the Welsh lit fires to better direct German bombers to Liverpool? I find it very hard to believe.

No. The idea was to kid the bombers that Liverpool was on the Dee and direct bombers away from Liverpool.

    See http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/m...litz/blitz.asp
The RAF also lit decoy fires on the sands of the Dee estuary, close to the Wirral shore, to confuse the enemy bombers. These succeeded in attracting many bombs that would otherwise have landed on Merseyside.

    Default Old Royal Insurance Building

This is one of my favourite Liverpool buildings. Now sadly being left to rot. One of the last buildings designed by the renowed Liverpool architect, J. Francis Doyle. I particularly like the sundial clock.
