Default 24 hours to go back in time

Ok you can have just24 hours to go back in time to any place in Liverpool or the surrounding area. where would you choose?

I would go back to ealy 1900`s Scotland road, to marvel at the hustle and bustle of those days. admire the many fine pubs and buildings, and see the court housing. wander to the docks to see the river in real action.

I'm with Gnomie, somewhere around the beginning of the 20th century near the docks, with a pub on every corner and sailors from all corners of the world about no matter what the time of day or night.

I'm with you Gnomie, I'll meet you in the Honkey Tonk in 1908.

1962 and be in the Cavern. I was born but too young to be there.

I would go back to 1904 to see Spring Heeled Jack jump from rooftop to pavement in William Henry St. (alledgedly!)

I used to go to the Cavern but I quit in 1958 when the Mardi Gras opened in Mount Pleasant. It was way better, served booze, toilets didn't stink like the Cavern ones always did. Before the Cavern was a cellar club at 19 Slater St. which was run by students, the musicians were all amateurs but it was enjoyable.

My choice would be 1945 , end of the war! people dancing in the street, festival of youth dance at the Grafton! and dance halls everywhere for the teenagers!!

I went the Mardi too. It was far, far bigger and had a bar up in the balcony as well. Some really good bands would play there.

The Cavern's toilets were in a basement below sewer level and the drains had to be pumped. It would be closed down today.

I went the Cavern after the Beatles has stopped playing there. Those tunnels were superb. The noise from the bands just came straight at you. They had benches just in front of the stage, where we would stand on when drunk and then fall off.

Visiting bands obviously thought we were all mad.

Below: The Mardi, which was 225 years old when the bulldozer ran through to built a car park:
