^ I'd guess these old bollards a little over 3 Feet, depending how much is buried. There are very few of the black/white ones still around. Many newer ones have a bue/grey colour with a white top. Some old rusty ones have been re-painted also.

Hygeia Street. The rear of Ogdens.

Netherfield Road South. A lone old bollard among the newer concrete ones.

Brilliant pics Marky. I love the black and white bollards, they are so quaint!

    Hi all

Still interested to see if anyone can come up with a bollard which is an old cannon. There used to be a number of them in the city but maybe they have gone by now?

The nearest I've seen to old cannon/ball bollards, would be the Leather lane ones. I don't know anything about genuine cannons, though. Here's a couple of oldish ones...I haven't seen many with this fluted end. Pics taken 2007.

    Princes Street

School Lane. I think this one has been removed.

Thanks, Marky. The top one has a square base so I very much doubt that it was a cannon. However the following Flickr search shows some good examples of cannons still used as bollards in ports round the world and shows you what we would be looking for.

I'm sure. Britain has the most beautiful bollards of the world.

That shot of Regent Street, do I spot a drinking fountain set in the wall ?
Any idea how high and wide these bollards are ?
Look forward to your pics mate.
there are a few wall fountains along that way. here's one I took last year

and I love those bollards by Pall Mall too. I took this a couple of days ago. they are looking rather forlorn.Shame they've been let go.

I took one a few years back when they were in much better nick. Photo boxed up in the cupboard somewhere. Must dig them out as I've got a fab one I took before the Gyratory was flattened
