    Default Panoramic BRITAIN'S highest restaurant

Panoramic Restaurant opens - 34 floors up

Feb 1 2008 by Tina Miles, Liverpool Echo

BRITAIN’S highest restaurant opens its doors today.

But bosses at Panoramic, on the 34th floor of Beetham’s West Tower, said it is already booked up until March.

The stylish restaurant and bar took a staggering 450 bookings in just one day.

Liverpool celebs were given a sneak preview at a champagne reception last night.

Singer Liz McClarnon was among the VIP guests enjoying the breathtaking views.

She told the ECHO: “It’s amazing. The minute I got here I texted about six of my mates and said I’m going to be bringing them.

“It reminds me of a chic London bar and restaurant – only it’s better because of the stunning Liverpool skyline.”

Other celebs included Andrew Lancel of The Bill, Hollyoaks’ Roxanne McKee, her co-star Jamie Lomas and radio presenter Dean Sullivan.

They listened to Beatles classics and contemporary tunes played by jazz band Row Z.

Staff served up a mini selection of sweet and savoury treats.

Restaurant designer Richard Eastwood, of R2 Architects, said Panoramic could help make the city European Capital of Cupid.

He said: “This is the place where every man is going to want to propose. It’s cosy and luxurious and very romantic.”

Interesting, Kev, but it sounds very expensive, doesn't it? I reckon I won't go there too often.

I remember dining with my Auntie Mary at the restaurant in St. John's Beacon after it was opened and that was a nice experience with a great view of the city, so I expect this will be even more spectacular. Will it revolve like the one at the Beacon did?

A room with a view. It won't revolve though Chris, unless you've had one too many pints that it.

I,d encourage anyone who could afford it to take their partners to a nice restarant high up over Liverpool. I went twice to the one in the beacon and I felt like a millionaire. Mind you I didn,t when I came down after paying ha ha

I went to a lovely resaurant over the Danube in Slavakia once and that was so cheap and mind boggling experience that I,d like to do again. The tip was more than the cost of the meal I remember.

So go on you plush members, treat your one and only and ravish, oops I mean lavish your love on them.

LIVERPOOL?S Panoramic, the UK?s highest restaurant, is riding high in a list of the Top 100 restaurants in the country.

The 34th-floor restaurant and cocktail bar, located in the city?s West Tower, was voted into 26th place by the Top UK Restaurants Academy, made up of chefs, restaurateurs and food critics.

The achievement places Panoramic above some of the world?s most renowned restaurants and chefs.

Gordon Ramsey?s Claridges comes in at number 33, while London?s celebrity haunt Hakkason and Jamie Oliver?s TV venture Fifteen were voted at number 69 and number 71 respectively.

Signature dishes such as scallops with cauliflower puree, spiced lamb rump with pickled aubergine and coconut panna cotta ensured chef director Chris Marshall and head chef Marc Lara stayed a step ahead of most of the competition.

Chris said: ?This is an incredible achievement for a restaurant open less than a year.

?We have a magnificent team and we know we have something special. I am so proud we have been recognised among the UK?s best restaurants.

?This gong really is testament to all the hard work of our team.?
