The mind boggles at the detail they are putting into that painting.

That must have taken a long time to paint. Some detail and what patience.

great pic, how do those defences work, are they against tanks, landing craft , infantry or what, they look like they would give good cover to gunfire

Thanks for the comments. I've always assumed the sea defences at Leasowe were designed to break up waves but I suppose they could have had other uses like stopping tanks landing. Never thought of that one.

Great photo, Taffy. I would also tend to think that what you photographed is a measure to protect the coast rather than a wartime defense.

Once upon a time, (long long ago,) you could walk from New Brighton Baths to West Kirby and not see any concrete for the whole walk.
The present defences are there as a defence agains the sea and land erosion.
They are doing a great job but alas, spoilt a nice sand-dune coast line.
During the summer? we spend a lot of time on Leasowe Common.

Spent a lot of our weekends at Morton Common when I was a kid. We had
a family tent which we left in a shed in someones back garden to save us carrying it backwards and forwards to Kirkdale, the cost was sixpence a week.
Every sunday would see us carrying bags of cockles on the ferry going home.
The sea defences weren`t put there till after the war years

Yes I remember Morton was the costa brava to us kids back in the 50/60s not that I ever went very often but when someone did take me ,the tents were all over the sands and it looked like another country to me. Now it would probably look like a refugee camp.
