Oooh I've just found this post.....I work at Lawrence Road, I've been there around 8 years now. The picture of the wall made up of different parts of the old building is called the "sunshine wall". Inside the foyer at the main entrance there is a piece of artwork made from the old building. I'm back to work on Monday so I'll get some pics for you. Oh I must tell you, we found the schools official 'Log Book'. It's quite incredible, it goes back years (I can't remember first date of entry) but the log finishes around 1989. A third of a way through the book were all of the entries during the war times. It was really sad to read. It spoke of bombing, evacuation and casualties. Again, I'll see if I can get some pics of it on Monday.

how wonderful. I was there earlier in the year and asked would I be able to look around. one of the receptionists said I'd have to wait til the school was empty, which was fair enough. haven't had chance to organise it over the summer sadly.
    look forward to hearing more.
When I was there Miss Venables was the head and in the infants I think it was Mrs Moffat. it was a long time ago . Mrs Owen was my fave teacher in the infants.
I had a bad accident when I was 10 and it's taken years for me to remember more bits from my infant/junior days. every time I see a photo of the school or a former pupil posts summat on Friends-reunited it's sparks my memory bank again.

her name just came to me Mrs Miles was head of the infants when I was there. she was from the North East I think and used to say "eat up your fudd children". we couldn't always grasp her accent as 5 years old .

I can imagine which receptionist you spoke to! Mrs Moffat was a dinner lady and she's still involved with the school and is on the board of Governors as was Mrs Owens until this year.
It's such a shame they knocked the old school down, we have such little space now. Do you remember a Miss Hillier or Mrs Kerr? They are still teaching at the school. I'll take loads of pics on Monday of the inside of the building as well, the children aren't back until Tuesday

Bill Miss pope must have gone downhill fast because the lads in the front row of the class were always dropping pencils on the floor to see what they could see.

Are you trying to say there was lead in their pencils even at that age GD?

What a great site for anybody wanting to check out their old school info & pics!!

Here's a few pics I took of WALTON ST. MARY C of E PRIMARY School in Bedford Rd, Walton, where I worked for 8 wonderful & unforgettable years until this year, when I moved on to Alsop.

They are probably the last pics taken of it as 'W.S.M', as it has recently merged with Arnot St school, so is now known as Arnot St Mary. (Although the 'main' part of the school is over on the old Arnot St school site )

I hope you like them. TTFN & I hope to be back real soon.

Wow, I was just reading back. Is Wellington Road still there? I think that is the school I went to for six months till I got into Mt. Carmel.

    Default Up on the roof.

Well Roni I was going into town this year on the bus and I saw Welly Road. They have put some sort of annexe on the roof where the playground was. Playgrounds on roofs of shools are unusual, perhaps they should list it.
