Found this among my old pics, This was when Everton had to seperate the
crowd by a certain distance from the goalnets after a bit of trouble with objects being thrown .Their answer was a curved section behind the goals.
I`m not sure of the year sometime in the 70`s I think.
West is in goal ,you can see Kendall 4, Johnston 9,Mike Lyons 5
Taken with a tele lens from the crowd at the other end of the ground

It was like that for years, including the World Cup games in 1966.

Only the Gwladys St end though if I remember correctly.

No. In the 1963/64 season a dart was thrown onto the pitch. well onto the grass near the pitch vs Spurs. The FA said do something, Everton put up scaffolding and wooden boards at both ends to take the crowd back away from the goal.. The next season the curved walls were erected at both ends to make it permanent and the fans referred to it as the "wall of shame". Many clubs copied Everton: Spurs, Burnley etc, but by using metal fencing, rather than a purpose built wall.

Liverpool disguised one by putting in an overlarge tunnel under the new Anfield Rd terracing in 1965, that ran right to the back of the goal at pitch level. It was putting one in by stealth.

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
    how it once was?

I took this in 1973 before a reserve game on Grand National Day, having been to Anfield for a League game in the morning!
