I heard recently that the Chavasse memorial might me moved to the city centre (possibly Church Street). With a bit of luck they won't do that (can you imagine all the weekend revellers covering it with whatever??). Hopefully it will stay in Abercromby Square.

Chavasse, Double VC by Ann Clayton is an excellent read.

Great monument, I've seen it many times and I think it should stay in Abercromby Square .

I was in the RAMC in the early fifties based in Church Crookham (RAMC Depot).
We had, at the time, a small museum there and, one day the Curator, a retired major, allowed me to hold Noel's VC amd Bar.
A privilege I shall never forget.

"A great soldier"! I had the privilage of being present of the re-naming of the old Wellington Barracks in Wavertree, to "Chavasse Barracks' in the mid to late 1950's. The Bishop performing the ceremony was a relative of Capt Chavasse. I know that either the Liverpool Echo or Daily Post printed photo's of this event at the time, but I've never been able to locate any!! Wonder if they can be found at the Liverpool Records Office??? Any offers???!

PS. Hi! Ellergreen, I too did my basic trg with RAMC at Queen Elizabeth Barracks at Crookham, back in 1950/51. Finally retired from RNZAMC in 1982. and enjoyed every moment of it!! Cheers.

A memorial to one of Britain's most decorated soldiers has been unveiled in Liverpool city centre.
The contemporary structure, in Chavasse Park, honours Capt Noel Chavasse who was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military medal, twice during World War I.

    anyone seen this new monument?
