    Default Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg

A Liverpool soldier who was severely injured in Iraq has become one of
the new faces of the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal.

Lance Corporal Craig "Freddie" Lundberg, 22, was blinded and almost lost his
left arm in a rocket-propelled grenade attack.

One of the aims of this year's appeal is to highlight the growing number of
    under-35s asking for help.

L/Cpl Lundberg said: "It is not just for old soldiers but young ones too."
"I thought the legion was for older servicemen - like from World War II and
    veterans.

"I never saw myself as a veteran at the age of 22."

    Hi all

I have been moved by the story of Craig Lundberg, the lance corporal blinded in Iraq. He is pictured at the Cenotaph at St. George's Hall in Pete Carr's photographs of Remembrance Day. There is more about Lundberg in a Financial News story "Lest We Forget." On his own blog there are photographs of his participation in Sunday's events and information on his activities. He is actually hoping to run in the London marathon and to ride in tandem with his dad in next year's six-day Big Battlefield Bike Ride. The May 2008 bike ride is a sponsored tour covering 340 miles across the battlefields of France being organised by the new charity, Help For Heroes. What a remarkable young man.

    Hi Pete

Many thanks for providing that fine photograph you took of Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg at Sunday's Rembrance Day event at St. George's Hall.

    Hi Steven

I think the point is that far from being a lad who mopes about his condition and about what happened to him, he is prepared to go out and remain active, raising money for the families of his fellow soldiers. A very creditable attitude.

    All the best

I have a mate on my site and his name is Simon Weston ( we are sort of joined at the hip since the Falklands.) Simon runs a charity for youngsters who have nothing. It is called Weston Spirit.

There are some lovely people in this world Chris.

    The Lance Corporal

Do they matter? -- those dreams from the pit?
    Siegfried Sassoon, "Does It Matter?"

In the black and white photographs
the rain drops suspend like snow
round gnarled faces of veterans, be-

medalled, as they march to the cenotaph.
A First World War frieze of tramping
British Army soldiers, and today's Navy

tars, each with poppy in hat. Rain
drains onto stone flags in a color photo
below the line of red poppy wreaths,

and a blind lance corporal in
desert uniform, wounded in Iraq, is
    escorted by two smart-dressed soldiers

to lay a wreath and meditate. Entitled
to mope, he will not; he prepares
    to run the London Marathon,

cycle in tandem with his Dad round
    French battlefields, for charity,
and so onward: "On yer bike, lad!"
