    Default THE DOCK ROAD

From the Pier head running north, the dock road starts as New Quay before becoming Bath Street at the King Edward industrial estate fork, then Waterloo Road at Paisley st (ToysRus) then Regent Road from Dublin street in Liverpool 3, right through L5 into Bootle L20.

This photo is taken in 1906 showing resurfacing, or sett laying on Regent Road. I think there's a subtle difference in cobble laying.

    Something for the photography buffs.

Did these men pose for the picture? The figures look crisp and clear yet the wagon and truck seem to be whizzing by.
I know that a similar effect is obtained by panning with the subject's movements leaving the background a blur.

    Waterloo Road

    And from the bascule bridge

Regarding setts and cobbles, there is also cubes.Cobbles were used with the tops left rough for the horse traffic to stop them slipping but later setts, (dressed stones)were used for a smoother finish, then along cubes which every side was equal.

In the old days film speed was very slow,so a certain amount of posing went on.In the pic the man with the spade appears to speaking to the man oppposite so he could have been still for a second, he would have also been aware that the pic was being taken,as the photographer would have also been using a tripod and plate camera.

The photographer didn't just sneak up any old time and catch them standing about then?
