    Default Crofton Redevelopment, Aigburth

I'm really pleased that this development is going ahead, as it's a pretty important building in the context of Liverpool's maritime history. Hopefully it won't have too much negative impact on the surrounding area as something close to 20 flats are going to be created. If anyone finds any detailed plans or pictures of the new development, you can post them here.

    Liverpool Daily Post

THE former home of Liverpool shipping magnate Alfred Holt is to be transformed into luxury flats costing up to £500,000 each.

The city council’s planning committee yesterday approved a £7m plan by local developers Darby Macy to regenerate the Crofton site in North Sudley Road, Aigburth.

Council planning officer Bob Collins said the scheme was probably the last opportunity to restore the near-derelict mansion.

A huge conservatory at the rear of the building will be restored and 12 flats created in the big house, built in the mid-1850s for Alfred Holt, founder of the Blue Funnel Line.

He lived in the house until his death in 1911 and it then found a new use as a women’s recovery hospital.

Earlier plans which would have seen apartment blocks in the grounds were rejected after massive opposition from local people.

Talks spanning several years have led to scaled-down plans which will see out-buildings restored and new homes built on the site.

    English Heritage backed the scheme.

    Hi Philip

Very interesting because I always thought Sudley was Holt's house. I didn't realize he had two houses in the area.

    All the best

They had at least 3 houses.
One in Ullet Road, actually called Holt House.
It's recently been converted into flats.
