    Default Al Jolson

A friend of mine from London, told me his uncle "George Martin" ( NOT OF BEATLES FAME ) from Bootle, used to do impersonations of Al Jolson around the pubs etc in the 50's 60's, do any of the more mature Yo'ers remember him ?
I'm a bit too young to recall those days !

He'd love to hear if anyone had any memories of his uncle George.

    Thanks, Mart

Everybody did impressions of Al in the old days.In the 1940`s the highlight of my day was visiting an old lady a few doors away who had a wind up gramaphone the size of a wardrobe and a large collection of Jolsons shellac records. I spent hours listening to them ,changing the needle every 3 records.

My granddad was a big fan of Al Jolson.

Isn't there a plaque (or the like) in the Maritime Museum claiming that Jolson left for the USA from Liverpool?

You will never see the Jolson Story on Tv,because he blacked his face for his shows.
Funny thing when I listen to my records now I, imagine Larry Parks singing.

Go Into Your Dance - made in 1935, was on the telly 20 years ago, I know because I taped it for my dad who loved his music.

Don't know about a plaque in Liverpool Mark.
