D.C. in Drenching Rain (CTG)
D.C. in Drenching Rain
Crocodile of tourist umbrellas
could be in any world city:
lined up for admission
to the Bureau of Engraving,
they wait to see where
we print our Chinese-
backed dollar bills.
I note the pinnacle of
the Washington Monument
wreathed in rainy mist,
closed to the public,
its old marble cracked
in the recent quake.
After the Congressional
SuperCommittee flubbed
its attempt to solve
the nation's debt crisis,
the Corridors of Power
today echo extra empty.
And D.C.'s about to float
down the river.
