    Default Brythen Street c1965

Two photographs of the same block on Brythen Street, with the Playhouse clearly visible in the first photograph to fix the location. Fantastic images of a lost city centre area Colin, it brings the scene clearly into the mind for those of us who only recall it post redevelopment . Also some interesting points on the proposed waterfront development....thanks !

Absolutely fantastic those Colin. I love the individual character and different rooflines etc and it was a catastrophe to lose this whole block including Houghton st, Elliot st and the Guinness Clock curve in favour of that bland oblong block of concrete there now which has dated a lot quicker than these buildings ever did.

I don't recognise it either. I don't remember those buildings by the Playhouse.

Really great stuff again Colin, many thanks.

That bottom one has the bookshop that you've shown us before on the extreme right and on the left the Magic Clock - next to the one that looks as if it's maybe getting painted.

"The destruction of the network of streets and squares to make way for the new market, road widening and (abandoned) civic centre scheme was one of Liverpool’s most significant architectural losses."
