    Default Vauxhall rd/Gt Howard st.

Just thought i'd let you know that i've added a dockside/canalside industry page to my site as requested by some of the Scottie press readers and thanks to a chap called Mike Murphy who took some great shots of the area in the 1980s and supplimented by quite a few 60s/70s Ainscough pics that the LRO have kindly given me permission to use.

No probs mate, I truly believe that that's what a picture is made for, no good sat in a folder in a drawer are they, they might as well not have been taken if that were the case.

Mike is so passionate about those places that it is he who wanted to share his ones really then he decided to root out some more and came across Ainscough's but it took many visits to the LRO, Ainscough took so many street pics, little innoculous alleyways, lanes and side streets - we have him to thank too.

    Glad you enjoyed them.

Yeah I love Ainscough's stuff. I just hope when I'm dead and gone somebody finds my pictures interesting!

    Leave them to the Library.
My cinema pics from the 1980s aren't technically good, but they're certainly historic, and (as I've realized), very rare.

Its really mad to think, but all the pictures that we take of today's Liverpool are going to historic in say 50 years time. I know that photography was left to the 'professionals' years ago who created some excellent shots rather than the snap happy people of today, but there are so many changing faces of Liverpool that need to be recorded.

The library are always looking for history, well the records department anyway. That,s why I,m leaving all my family tree and certificates and photographs on our families and the areas that is relevent to them, for all to see in the coming centuries.

Yes, the professionals did tend to get the civic buildings unless the city engineers dept enlisted Stuart Bale or similar companies to record changes but these last few years have unearthed some fantastic amateur photographers who have captured the 1960s,70s and 80s such as John Bythell, Joe Neary, Freddy O'Connor, Ron Formby, Joe Devine, Harry Ainscough, Brian Saville and might I add our very own PhilipG. Each in their own right seem to have specialised on a certain area or certain type of building (except Ainscough) and without those snaps, our view of the city at those periods of time wouldn't be as rich. The likes of Marky, Dave Wood, Wallasey and Gerard and I suspect a lot more these days are onto it and recording history and in 50 years times there'll be a lot more early 2000s shots than there was for the previous 40 years.

    Default Chippie,s dad,s ship of 1944

just found two photos of my dad,s first ship that he sailed on back during the war years. I also have a photo of him which is being "touched up" at the moment, with his dad, my grandad, on the river ready to go onboard.

The ship is the Port Jackson destined for Australia at the time. It will help to illuminate my family tree.
