    Hi Ladyhawk
If you go to www.toxteth.net/maps/liverpool you will find an old map showing Sackville St.

    Hiya Val
here is a reproduction map from around 1910

Sackville Street is near the top just under the scale & Horatio St is close to the Fruit & veg market in Cazenue St

    Hi Robbo176
    That's a super map.
I'll be visiting Liverpool for the first time ever in November for a few days.
Do you know of any good used bookshops where I might find any old maps, picture postcards, directories, magazines etc. relating to central Liverpool and Toxteth Park?
    I'm interested in 19th and 20th centuries.

You can get quite a range of local history publications, maps, etc from places like W.H.Smith,these days, but the only s/hand bookshop I can think of, is Henry Bohn,at the front of Lime st. station. It should still be around when you come over, but it,and several other shops adjoining, have just lost a compulsory purchase battle,as the site is to be re-developed!Also,the Wavertree society website is quite good.(I'd include a link, if I could!!!! )

Those maps (the Godfrey maps) are available in fold out form from the records office, 4th floor of the Central Library, William Brown st. They also have large laminated reference maps which can be photographed or photocopied.

Apart from Bohn's in Lime Street, Read's in Mount Pleasant is the only other second-hand bookshop in Liverpool.
Jim's Emporium in Quiggin's used to be a good source of Liverpool ephemera, but I don't know if he moved to Central Hall in Renshaw Street.
Besides, all three places are much too expensive when it comes to Liverpool stuff.
It's always best to look for Liverpool material in any town but Liverpool.
The bargains are there, not here.
