    Saturday 1st October..

    Cunard building government offices..
This room was a busy office area on Wed 28th October when occupied by the government..
The photo was taken on Thursday 29th October..
the day after after the government people vacated the Cunard building after years of using the Cunard building...

This area had its own staff, cleaners etc...
the normal Cunard building staff were not allowed in this area...ever..
the doors were manned by security staff as a lot of top secret stuff was held in safety rooms in this area..

This is a one off photo..
Nobody has ever been allowed to take photos in this area..
and nobody will be allowed to again.. that's what I'm told...

Click to view the photo large.. note the gold painted american eagles..
they were painted gold to look nice as this area was once a 1st class passenger waiting area...
passengers would wait here before departures and on arrivals to Liverpool to collect their luggage..

Across the corridor from this 1st class waiting area was the 2nd class waiting area..
That room is similar... no gold painted american eagles I'm afraid for the 2nd class..
Your normal white ones will have to do for them..

I remember as a kid wandering around the Cunard building...when my Dad was 'away at sea' my Mum used to have to go to collect our 'weekly allotment'.........(think the allotment office was in the basement) but I was curious and wanted to nose upstairs! Not sure it was the office in your pic Gerard as it was a long time ago!!

Didn't they have big models of the ships in glass cases on the ground floor? If you were well behaved and asked nicely the man on the desk would give you a handful of postcards of the various Cunard ships Like you we used to go with our neighbour to collect her allotment. The Echo used to list all the ships that were sailing or arriving into Liverpool and the Library up on St Domingo Road had a room where the newspapers were and lots of families used to go and check up where their Dad or brother was.amazing how technology has changed communication now they can't go to the chippy without saying where they are.

Yes I think you're right Doris...i didn't get the postcards though!
......we were only talking last week about the only way we knew when Dad was coming home was to look in the Echo!.......but we used to write all the time, I still have some of my Dad's letters. He died over 20 odd years ago now so they are something to remember him by......wouldn't have that with an email or text!

Its been there for a few years now in daylight it is just clear, no colour.
Around the waste ground area between S F X and Shaw St new gardens have been laid out, with water features in front of Liverpool Hope buildings
