Pregnant Mantis
The swifts are all a-twitter this morning,
high above sexting humanity; a one-legged
grasshopper and a brown pregnant
mantis lurk in the overgrown lavender.
It's two days until my late Mother Yoria's
ninety-first birthday... she hated the word
"pregnant"! A British specialist believed
she had MS, told her to have just one child.
A rabbit limps below the lavender, begins
to devour greens. A young couple strolls by,
their beagle straining at its leash
fails to disturb Br'er Rabbit's foraging.
The mantis readies to populate the world.
