Default Former Eye and Ear Infirmary.

A former Eye and Ear Infirmary on Liverpool's Myrtle Street, now supposed luxury flats.(fancy people call them aparments )

Still a nice building though and I might make a colour one shortly to show how nice It Is.

Anyway, It's Liverpool's 800th birthday today(800 years since King John granted Liverpool a charter In 1207) and there will be many celebrations, so hopefully I'll get good shots of whats going on.

    So HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIVERPOOL!!

I decided for building pics Instead of the festivals, I felt bored looking around and there was no good angles for the Matthew Street stuff.

I think that hospital is the 'ear, nose and throat', the eye hospital was on Old Hall St.

It was called the ENT - Ear Nose and Throat in Myrtle Street.

I think the Eye hospital was St. Paul's in old Hall Street.

They pulled it down 'cos it was a site for sore eyes.' s.

    You're both right.
It was built as the Eye and Ear Infirmary, which is carved in stone on the building.
By the 1930s it was the Liverpool Eye, Ear and Throat Infirmary, and it was later called the Liverpool Ear, Nose and Throat Infirmary.

I was only little in those days mate, but I remember being taken up to the ENT in 1953 to have a fish bone removed from my throat.

Didn't it later get taken over by the Art College ? I lost track, when I was moving around with the Royal Navy. It all became fuzzy.

You are a mine of information and have filled gaps in my past which I never thought possibble.

    Many thanks.

Yes, it was later occupied by Liverpool Community College.
They've built a new Arts Centre on the site of the Children's Infirmary.

I could see the Stamp of Greatness on you, when I first joined this site.

I lived abroad for so many years and still spend 3 months each each on my canal boat in Amsterdam.

You know all my old haunts,,, where I was brought up in St. James Street. How I played being some sort of daredevil on the high/ bombed out walls of the customs house.

I was dragged out of bed to serve Mass in St. Vincents at the age of 7. Never had a clue what those Latin words meant.

Great to take these 'tacks' down memory lane but even better for me to get them put in order by a man who remembers well.
