I'm wondering if the church is St Polycarps (but wouldn't the Old Stingo pub be in the pic too) or is it the one on Upper Parly.

Think i've got it. Oak and Eldon Heights in Birkenhead had V shaped concrete stanchions like that (as did Entwistle) and a chess board design on the gable end.
